Guard puts out car fire in Bengaluru, saves Metro station from disaster

Bengaluru: Quick thinking and prompt action often avert disasters. A security guard at the newly opened Hebbagodi Metro station on the Yellow Line showed it. He prevented a potential tragedy by quickly extinguishing a car fire late Friday night, demonstrating his presence of mind. The incident occurred around 11:50 pm on Hosur Road, which was waterlogged due to heavy rain. A white car had broken down while passing beneath the Metro station. As the vehicle stalled, the driver noticed smoke billowing from under the bonnet and sought help.Shivakumar, the on-duty security guard at the station, sprang into action. He rushed into the station, grabbed a fire extinguisher, and worked swiftly to douse the flames before they could spread.A short circuit is believed to have triggered the fire. Thanks to Shivakumar’s response, a major fire was averted—saving the Metro infrastructure from possible damage. After the fire was brought under control, the car was towed away, allowing traffic to resume on the usually busy service road.A senior BMRCL official said, “Shivakumar’s quick thinking and timely intervention are highly commendable. Had he not acted promptly, the fire could have intensified, possibly damaging Metro property and causing further traffic chaos.”The official said Metro security guards are trained on fire safety measures on a regular basis.
