NEW DELHI: A political row erupted in Karnataka after chief minister Siddaramaiah promised to rename Shivaji Nagar metro station in Bengaluru after St Mary. The announcement was made on Monday during the annual feast at St Mary’s Basilica, where Siddaramaiah promised Archbishop Peter Machado that the government would “positively consider” the request. Deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar backed Siddaramaiah’s remarks, saying there was nothing unusual in responding to community requests.“We have just discussed it. I think there is a request. There is nothing wrong with a request. We will take up a call on that,” news agency ANI quoted Shivakumar as saying.The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has not yet issued any official statement on the proposal.(With inputs from agency)
