BENGALURU: A special investigation team (SIT) of CID has filed a closure report in a gang rape case against BJP MLA N Munirathna Naidu and four of his associates, informing the high court Wednesday that the complaint filed in May was found to be false.Taking note of the submission, Justice MI Arun adjourned the hearing on Munirathna’s petition to Sept 17. The court also extended its interim order restraining police from initiating coercive action against the MLA until the next date of hearing. The complaint was filed by a 40-year-old social worker, accusing Munirathna of masterminding the gang rape at his office on June 11, 2023.The woman alleged that on his directions, two of his associates took her inside the office on the pretext of getting the MLA’s help in clearing a criminal case against her. There, two men raped her while Munirathna watched and then urinated on her, she stated. “There was not a single piece of evidence to establish the allegations. Hence, we are closing the case under a B report, saying the complaint itself is false,” added a senior IPS officer. The SIT had earlier chargesheeted Munirathna and others for honey-trapping and attempting to infect others with AIDS. The MLA was also chargesheeted in Nov last year for allegedly hurling abuses at an ex-corporator.
