Udupi: SP Hariram Shankar said that understanding the practices and cultures of all religions helps spread a message of peace in society. He was speaking after inaugurating the Christmas get-together organised by the Udupi Diocese for media representatives.Describing Christmas as a festival celebrated together by people of all communities, SP Hariram Shankar said the core objective of all religions across the world is to strengthen social unity. Religion plays a significant role in bringing society together and influences people in moral, social, and spiritual ways. Every religion fosters a sense of unity in society, and everyone must join hands in building a strong and united India, he added.Presiding over the programme, bishop of the Udupi Diocese, Most Rev Gerald Isaac Lobo said that Lord Jesus left his heavenly kingdom and was born in a manger. When humanity drifted away from God and struggled in sin, Jesus came to restore people to God. He recalled Jesus’ message that those who strive for peace on Earth are blessed, and urged people to live according to those teachings.During the event, the newly elected office bearers of the Udupi District Working Journalists’ Association were felicitated by the diocese. MCC Bank president Anil Lobo and Udupi District Working Journalists’ Association president SG Kurya conveyed their greetings. Monsignor Ferdinand Gonsalves, senior priest of the Udupi Diocese, and vice-chancellor Rev Steven D’Souza were present.
