Mandya: To commemorate the success of the 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, a dedicated Kannada Bhavan will be constructed in Mandya at an estimated cost of Rs 5.5 crore. The 87th edition of the Kannada literary meet was held in Mandya from Dec 20 to 22, 2024, which celebrated the unity of Kannada language and reflected the state’s rich literature, culture, and heritage. Following the success of the Sammelana, elected representatives, writers, and locals expressed a desire to establish a permanent Kannada Bhavan. The foundation stone-laying ceremony for the project is scheduled to be held on Jan 30, after land was reserved within the premises of the Sir M Visvesvaraya Indoor Stadium in Mandya. DC Kumara stated that the foundation stone-laying ceremony will be held in the presence of Adichunchanagiri mutt seer Nirmalanandanatha Swami. The event will also be attended by N Chaluvarayaswamy, minister for Agriculture and Mandya district minister, along with elected representatives and literary figures.
Of the total project cost, Rs 2.5 crore was sourced from the savings generated during the Sahitya Sammelana, while the remaining Rs 3 crore was sanctioned under the chief minister’s infrastructure development scheme. However, the project left sportspersons disappointed, as land reserved for the sports development was sanctioned for Kannada Bhavan.
