BENGALURU: In a major step toward expanding its presence in India’s fast-growing AI and startup ecosystem, OpenAI has begun hiring for a Solutions Architect, Startups role in Bengaluru — the company’s first such position in the country. Kenneth Ang, talent partner at OpenAI, announced the opening on LinkedIn, noting that the company is also recruiting for a similar role in Seoul, South Korea. “We’re hiring in India (Bangalore) and South Korea (Seoul)! Are you deeply connected to your local startup ecosystem and passionate about building with AI?” Ang wrote. The Bengaluru-based position falls under OpenAI’s team, which focuses on helping early-stage companies build and scale products using OpenAI’s models and infrastructure. The role aims to connect OpenAI’s cutting-edge technology with India’s vibrant startup scene, supporting founders as they move from idea to prototype to large-scale deployment. According to the job listing, OpenAI is seeking candidates with strong technical experience in AI/ML, software engineering, or product building, and established connections within India’s startup community — whether as founders, mentors, or investors. “You’ll be a bridge between OpenAI’s technology and the most ambitious startup founders — guiding them as they integrate AI into real-world products, shape new markets, and define what’s possible,” Ang stated in his post. The move marks OpenAI’s growing focus on India, which has emerged as one of the world’s most dynamic AI markets. While the company has not revealed how many positions it plans to fill, the Bengaluru role is expected to pave the way for future hiring in India. The announcement also comes ahead of OpenAI’s first DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru on November 4, where the company will engage with developers and startups. Notably, OpenAI recently announced free access to ChatGPT Go for Indian users for one year, beginning the same day — further signalling its deepening engagement with the Indian tech ecosystem.
