NEW DELHI: Pulling up Odisha govt over its indecisiveness on taking a call on the remission plea of Dara Singh, SC Tuesday said the state cannot linger on the issue and made it clear that the official (secretary) concerned will be summoned if decision is not taken by Sept 17, the next date of hearing.A bench of Justices Manoj Misra and Vijay Bishnoi expressed displeasure after Odisha govt sought a four-week adjournment on the ground of illness of its advocate-on-record (AoR). Deferring the hearing, the court made it clear that no adjournment will be granted on the next date. “You cannot keep it lingering like this. Take a decision, accept or reject. You cannot avoid taking decision,” the bench said.Noting that hearing in the case had been adjourned multiple times to allow the state to take a call on the remission plea, the court at the previous hearing also expressed displeasure over State Sentence Review Board not having made a decision yet. SC made it clear to state govt that it would have to pass an order if the authority did not make a decision.
