NEW DELHI: The full Election Commission – comprising CEC Gyanesh Kumar and ECs S S Sandhu and Vivek Joshi – met Wednesday, a second time in five days, and decided to extend the deadlines for the ongoing SIR exercise in Andhra Pradesh and Meghalaya, reports Bharti Jain.The revised period for disposal of claims and objections in Andhra will now run from July 31 to Oct 10. The date for publication of the final poll roll also stands extended to Oct 16. For Meghalaya, the date for publication of the final poll roll has been revised to Oct 26.The second full meeting of the commission since an Indian Express report alleged that ECs Sandhu and Joshi had objected to steps taken by EC on 14 occasions over 10 months reaffirms that the CEC and the two ECs have agreed to sit together and transact normal business of the commission through regular meetings.The draft roll of Meghalaya published on Aug 5 listed 21.7 lakh electors, with around 7.7% absent, shifted, dead and duplicate electors deleted. In Andhra, the draft roll listed 3.7 crore electors after deleting 10.8% of its electorate.
