POCSO court sentences man to 20 years imprisonment for raping minor girl at gunpoint in Nuh

Additional Sessions Judge Ashu Sanjeev Tinjan, after considering the evidence and statements of the victim and her family, awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment to the accused and imposed a fine of Rs 40,000.

GURGAON: A Fast Track Special Court in Nuh has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2023.According to the police, a case was registered at the Bichhor police station on April 23, 2023, following a complaint filed by the victim’s family. The prosecution alleged that the accused, accompanied by his brother, abducted the minor girl from her residence during the night and sexually assaulted her. The victim was later rescued from the upper floor of the accused’s house. The family, in their complaint, alleged that the accused committed the sexual assault at gunpoint and issued death threats to the victim to ensure her silence. Additionally, family members reported being physically assaulted by the accused when they arrived to rescue the girl.The police investigation testified to the accusations of the family, and the accused was chargesheeted under sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The forensic and medical reports confirmed sexual assault. The victim and her family testified against the accused in the court.Along with this, physical evidence collected from the crime scene also helped in proving the case. During the trial, the prosecution successfully argued that the gravity of the offense warranted a severe penalty.Additional Sessions Judge Ashu Sanjeev Tinjan, after considering the evidence and statements of the victim and her family, awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment to the accused and imposed a fine of Rs 40,000.The court, in its judgment, emphasized the need for stringent punishment in crimes against children.The court clarified that the period already spent by the convict in judicial custody during the trial would be deducted from the total sentence. A spokesperson for the Nuh Police stated that the timely submission of the chargesheet and strong corroborative evidence played a critical role in securing justice for the survivor.
