NEW DELHI: Hard-selling its fifth-generation fighter jet ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India for Brics summit, Kremlin said Tuesday that selling the stealth fighters to India is high on Putin’s agenda and that Moscow is in discussions with New Delhi for the possible sharing of Su-57 technology.Interacting with Indian media via a virtual briefing from Moscow, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, “Su-57 jets are very sophisticated machines, and they are one of the best in the world. Selling these machines is on (Putin’s Brics bilateral meet) agenda.”On sharing of the sensitive stealth fighter technology, he said, “Indian scientists want production technologies, and this is a question for additional discussions which are underway. Every country wants to keep a sophisticated tech to itself. But we have advanced strategic ties with India and will thus discuss the possibilities of whether the technology can be made available to India. Such military cooperation is of great importance, but it can’t be discussed openly and publicly.Putin’s spokesperson added, “We are also jointly producing BrahMoS missiles. It is time to think about improving those missiles and adding some additional characteristics to make them more effective and competitive in the world.” Peskov said S-400 air defence system deliveries also remain on the leaders’ agenda. On greater nuclear cooperation, he said, “Russia is a global leader in nuclear technology. We are constructing more nuclear units than any other country in the world. We are introducing a new field of economy in India – peaceful nuclear energy. We are getting on very well in Kudankulam, and we are expecting further negotiations with India on new nuclear plants to be built in India.”
