Surprisingly, three Washington Commanders players are in the NFL free agency this year. This one here is neither Bobby Wagner nor Deebo Samuel. It’s Von Miller.Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton wants “Philadelphia Eagles sign Von Miller” to be one of the eight roster moves that need to be made heading into the 2026 NFL Training Camp. July 29, training camps begin. And the former Commanders outside linebacker is still without a team.Miller admitted he chose the wrong team before training camp in 2025. He chose the Commanders over the Super Bowl LX-winning Seattle Seahawks in the 2025 offseason. Had he chosen the Seahawks, he would have been a three-time champion today.Anyhow, the 37-year-old edge rusher could still help a contender in need of an established edge rusher. Who could be better than the Philadelphia Eagles for Miller?
Eagles heavily linked to Commanders edge rusher Von Miller
According to Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton, the Philadelphia Eagles acquired Jonathan Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings this offseason, but they don’t have a reliable pass rusher opposite him.25-year-old Jalyx Hunt showed signs of promise in 2025, but he could not be relied upon opposite Greenard. 2023 first-round pick Nolan Smith Jr. could only record 10.5 sacks, so he has been a disappointment so far.Von Miller, on the other hand, could provide a much-needed pass-rushing boost and be a closer on the edge for Philadelphia.
Von Miller and Philadelphia DC Vic Fangio share a history
Familiarity could bring Miller to the Eagles: Vic Fangio. Fangio was the head coach for the Denver Broncos from 2019 to 2021, when Miller was the outside linebacker and edge rusher for the Broncos from 2011 to 2021. That’s three seasons of familiarity.Vic Fangio has been the defensive coordinator for the Eagles since 2024. They won the Super Bowl LIX title under Fangio’s guidance. Miller is looking for a Super Bowl-contending team, like every other veteran, so Philadelphia could really be his top destination.
Von Miller could mentor but not take snaps away from Jonathan Greenard
A To Z Sports Eagles content creator, Ryan Brown, said that Miller could come in as a mentor for Nolan Smith Jr. and Jalyx Hunt. But he shouldn’t take away snaps from someone like Jonathan Greenard. Also, if the Philadelphia Eagles want to sign a veteran, they could bring back someone familiar like Brandon Graham.“He[Von Miller]’s 13th All-Time on the NFL Sacks list,” Ryan Brown said. “He is a two-time Super Bowl champion. He is an eight-time Pro Bowler. He is a future Hall of Famer. But at the end of the day, what Von Miller can provide right now is not enough to sign him to a roster spot. If he wants to take a minimum and play five snaps a game and just be a mentor to Nolan Smith Jr. and Jalyx Hunt, I’m cool with that, but I’d rather have the guy that already knows them, Brandon Graham.I’d rather bring back BG if the Eagles wanna go out and sign a veteran; I’d look for a guy that’s a little bit younger, that can actually produce. You know, you don’t wanna take snaps away, especially from a guy like Jonathan Greenard.”
