GSET 2026 notification released for Assistant Professor eligibility exam in Gujarat

GSET 2026: The Gujarat State Nodal Agency at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, has released the detailed information bulletin for the Gujarat State Eligibility Test (GSET) 2026. The state-level examination is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for appointment as Assistant Professors in universities and colleges across Gujarat.According to the notification, GSET 2026 will be conducted in 36 subjects at 12 examination centres across the state. The examination is scheduled for November 29, 2026. Candidates seeking eligibility for teaching positions in higher education institutions can submit their applications through the official GSET portal within the prescribed registration period.Subjects and examination detailsThe examination will cover 36 post-graduate subjects, and candidates are required to select the subject corresponding to their post-graduation specialisation. Subjects include Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Hindi, Gujarati, Sanskrit, History, Sociology, Economics, Political Science, English, Education, Law, Commerce, Management, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Geography, Social Work, Hindu Studies, Music, Yoga, Statistics and other disciplines listed in the information bulletin.Question papers will be offered in English, Gujarati, Sanskrit, Hindi or bilingual formats, depending on the subject. Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences and Life Sciences will be conducted in English, while Gujarati and Sanskrit papers will be available in their respective languages.Eligibility requirements for applicantsCandidates must have obtained at least 55 per cent marks, without rounding off, in a Master’s degree or equivalent examination from a UGC-recognised university or institution. Applicants belonging to SEBC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC, ST, PwD and third-gender categories must have secured a minimum of 50 per cent marks.Those pursuing a Master’s degree or awaiting final results may apply provisionally. Such candidates must complete their degree with the required percentage within two years from the declaration of the GSET result. The notification specifies that there is no upper age limit for applicants.Fee structure and selection processThe application fee has been fixed at Rs 900 plus bank charges for General, General-EWS and SEBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates. SC, ST and third-gender applicants are required to pay Rs 700 plus bank charges, while the fee for PwD candidates is Rs 100 plus bank charges. Payments must be made online through debit card, credit card or net banking.GSET 2026 will consist of two objective-type papers conducted on the same day. Paper I will carry 100 marks with 50 questions assessing teaching and research aptitude, reasoning, comprehension and general awareness. Paper II will carry 200 marks with 100 questions from the candidate’s selected subject. The examination will not include negative marking.
