'An honour to become the first English player': Harry Kane reacts after making history in Germany

Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane has become the first English player to win Germany’s Footballer of the Year award, adding another major honour to his impressive spell in Germany. Kane was presented with the prestigious award at the Allianz Arena ahead of Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga opener. The striker described the recognition as a special moment, particularly after receiving it in front of the club’s supporters.Sharing his reaction on social media, Kane wrote: “An honour to become the first English player to win Germany’s Footballer of the Year award. A special feeling to receive it at the Allianz in front of our incredible fans. Great to collect it alongside the gaffer and Giulia Gwinn – congratulations to you both!” England star on X.He also congratulated Bayern coach Vincent Kompany and Giulia Gwinn, who were named Coach of the Year and Women’s Footballer of the Year respectively.

Kane beats teammate Olise

Kane was voted the winner by members of the Association of German Sports Journalists (VDS), collecting 272 of 659 votes. Bayern teammate Michael Olise finished second with 203 votes, while Kane succeeds Florian Wirtz, who won the award in 2025. The honour recognises Kane’s outstanding 2025-26 campaign, during which he scored a remarkable 36 Bundesliga goals.The Germany Footballer of the Year prize is Kane’s latest individual achievement. Earlier in the week, he was awarded the European Golden Shoe after finishing as Europe’s leading scorer during the 2025-26 season. He also celebrated team success with Bayern Munich, who defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the 2026 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on Saturday.Although Kane did not get on the scoresheet in the Supercup, his remarkable run of individual honours continued with his historic recognition in Germany.
