Bengaluru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah Monday expressed displeasure over delays in filing chargesheets in SC/ST atrocity cases, warning police to improve performance and ensure full compliance.Chairing an SC/ST (control of atrocities) vigilance and supervision committee meeting, Siddaramaiah pointed out that chargesheets were filed in only 4,912 of the 6,635 complaints. Of these, he said, just 4,149 were completed within 60 days, while 679 cases remain under investigation and 56 are stayed by courts.“Only 63% of the chargesheets are being filed within 60 days. I want 100% results. If cops join hands with the accused, then stringent action will be initiated against such officials,” he added.He noted the conviction rate under the SC/ST Atrocities Act is just 10% and asked police to verify counter-complaints carefully. “Only if the cases are genuine, an FIR must be filed,” he added.The CM said 11 special courts have been set up to handle atrocity cases and stressed vigilance to deliver justice to the downtrodden. He also reviewed the ongoing Devadasi survey, stating: “As soon as the survey on the number of victims is received, the govt will initiate action for their rehabilitation.”
