Woman, her lover sentenced to death for murdering husband

Shivamogga: A woman and her paramour were sentenced to death by the IV additional district and sessions court, Shivamogga (Bhadravathi bench), for murdering her husband in 2016. The death sentence has to be confirmed by the high court.According to Bhadravathi police, Lakshmi, a schoolteacher at a govt school, and her lover, Krishnamurthy alias Kitti, a driver, were sentenced to death for the brutal murder of Lakshmi’s husband, Imtiaz, who was a govt schoolteacher in 2016.Both were married in Kalaburagi while they were teaching in the same school. Imtiaz was from Soraba, and Lakshmi was from Bhadravathi. They both transferred to Bhadravathi after their marriage.The court also sentenced Shivaraj alias Shivu, the third convict who assisted the duo in disposing of Imtiaz’s body, to seven years in prison. The verdict was delivered based on evidence and an investigation conducted by the Newtown police station, Bhadravathi.According to the investigation, Lakshmi and Krishnamurthy were having an affair, which Imtiaz opposed, leading to his murder. On July 7, 2016, Imtiaz was brutally murdered at his home in Jannapura. His body was tied with a rope and thrown into the Bhadra River near Bhadravathi’s new bridge. The police investigation revealed that Lakshmi and Krishnamurthy hit Imtiaz on the head with a rod and hammer, resulting in his death. After the murder, they wrapped the body in a bedsheet and tied it with nylon rope before disposing of it in the river.Shivaraj alias Shivu allegedly assisted them in transporting the body in a car. The court ordered Lakshmi and Krishnamurthy to pay Rs 10 lakh in compensation to Imtiaz’s mother.Shivamogga SP Mithun Kumar said that the court gave the death sentence to the convicts as the prosecution succeeded in proving the charges with evidence. Ratnamma was the public prosecutor in the case.
