Shivamogga: Veteran Congress leader Kagodu Thimmappa on Tuesday collapsed at Sagar, his hometown, during Marikamba Jatra. His condition is now stable, according to his family members. The 93-year-old leader participated in the jatra, which started on Tuesday, and took part in the temple rituals around 10.30am. Amidst the celebrations, thousands of people started to cheer for the veteran socialist leader. When he was greeting them, he suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the govt hospital in the town. He was accompanied by family and Sagar MLA Belur Gopal Krishna. Speaking to reporters, Thimmappa’s daughter and Congress functionary Raja Nandini said they visited the temple to offer puja and encountered a huge crowd as they exited the temple premises. She stated that her father became excited after seeing the crowd, but suddenly experienced breathing difficulties, causing him to faint. Medical officer Dr Vikram provided primary treatment at the hospital and confirmed that the exhaustion was caused by the heavy rush. Raja Nandini said has recovered and returned home.
