University PRO Dr MR Sathyaprakash told TOI that a comprehensive waste system is in place and that hostels do not discharge refuse. He said litter seen on campus — mainly snack wrappers — is left by irresponsible wayfarers. Despite this, waste has been piling up; recently, a deer chased by stray dogs took refuge inside a cooperative bank branch in front of the university gate before being rescued.Bhadra’s core tiger habitat spans about 500.1 sq km, while the buffer and peripheral areas cover around 571.8 sq km. Large stretches of the buffer zone, particularly from Singhanamane to Tammadihalli, are strewn with rubbish. Forest staff regularly clear trash, but an official blamed local gram panchayats for failing to manage waste along highways.Pulkit Meena, director of the tiger reserve, confirmed frequent wildlife movement on the campus and said the department is in constant contact with university authorities. He said authorities have issued a notice and stopped the illegal construction of a resort by an influential leader in Kolagave village, which falls within the buffer zone. The issue was also raised by BJP MLC DS Arun during the legislative session.
