Mandya: District minister N Cheluvarayaswamy on Monday said that sustained efforts will be made to effectively convey the ideals and philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi to the younger generation through Gandhi Bhavan.Speaking after inaugurating the Gandhi Bhavan constructed by the department of information and public eelations at B Hosuru village in Mandya taluk, the minister said that the district administration sanctioned 36 guntas of land in B Hosuru village, Keregodu Hobli, for the project. Built at a cost of Rs 3 crore, the Gandhi Bhavan is well equipped with modern facilities, including a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, a portrait gallery, a library, a reading room, a multipurpose hall, a training centre and an administrative office.A photo gallery depicting various stages of Gandhiji’s life and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 100 people were also developed with aesthetically designed interiors.The minister said the Gandhi Bhavan was established with the objective of highlighting Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts, principles and ideals, as well as his invaluable contribution to India’s freedom struggle. The centre will propagate his message of simple living, Satyagraha, promotion of cottage industries and his concern for children, women, the oppressed and backward classes. Training programmes, discussions, cultural activities and commemorative events will be organised regularly at the venue. He also appreciated the rich collection of photographs displayed at the Bhavan.Mandya MLA Ravikumar, deputy commissioner Kumara, zilla panchayat CEO KR Nandini, and superintendent of police VJ Shobharani were present.
