Mysuru: Ganja peddlers arrested for dealing in banned narcotic substances were using cars, bikes and goods vehicles to transport and store ganja for illegal activity.Karnataka registered nearly 6,000 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act until Nov 2025, with the number showing a comparative increase. According to data submitted by home minister G Parameshwara to the legislative council in Dec, more four-wheelers were seized in 2025 for being used in narcotics-related offences. A total of 117 four-wheelers used by drug peddlers to store and transport ganja and other narcotic substances were seized during 2025. The number of cars linked to narcotic crimes was 85 in 2024 and 113 in 2023, indicating a steady rise in the use of private vehicles for trafficking and storage. Two-wheelers also featured prominently in NDPS cases. About 242 two-wheelers, including bikes and scooters, were seized in connection with NDPS cases registered in 2025. In comparison, 264 two-wheelers were seized in 2024 and 286 in 2023. Police also seized other categories of vehicles, including goods vehicles, pointing to the use of multiple transport modes to move contraband. NDPS cases were registered for cultivation, possession, sale and transport of narcotic substances. Mysuru police commissioner Seema Latkar said the fight against drugs by the city police continues and intensified, with the city police tracing an average of 10 ganja-related cases every day. She said a special drive to check possession and consumption of ganja was under way as part of an area domination exercise, with increased police presence on the ground. As part of the drive, police were checking vehicles of suspected persons and conducting inspections of shops to verify whether any narcotic substances were being stored.
