DHARWAD: A Nepalese national was found dead and six of his roommates were hospitalised after suspected case of suffocation at their residence in Nandini Layout here on Friday night.Police said seven Nepalese men, all working at a local eatery, shared the accommodation. At night, they reportedly cooked dinner on a coal-fired stove and went to sleep in a room with its door and windows shut. When none of them reported for work Saturday, the eatery owner went to check on them. He found them unresponsive and alerted police.Cops suspect suffocation from smoke caused deathPolice commissioner N Shashikumar, who inspected the spot, said suffocation caused by smoke from the coal fire could have led to the incident. “We noticed that no window or door was open and there is no clue of food poisoning. We are awaiting the postmortem report to determine the exact cause of death,” he said.The deceased was identified as Bibek, 40. The others — Nitesh, 45, Naresh, 45, Dikeshi, 40, Sudhan, 30, Kumar, 50, and Laxman, 30 — were admitted tothe district hospital, with two of them in ICU.
