No untoward incidents; 8L joined NY celebrations in Bengaluru: HM

Bengaluru: Home minister G Parameshwara Thursday said New Year celebrations across the state, including Bengaluru, were peaceful, with no major untoward incidents reported. An estimated 7–8 lakh people took part in the festivities in the city.He added that around 20,000 police personnel were deployed in the city—the highest ever for New Year celebrations—and there were no reports of major incidents, traffic jams, or accidents.Focus on mobilityDeputy CM DK Shivakumar said mobility would be a major focus for the govt in the coming year. “As far as mobility is concerned, various initiatives will be implemented,” he added.Claiming that 2025 had been a successful year for the state, Shivakumar said such “historic programmes and projects had likely never been implemented in the city” during his 36 years as a legislator. He added that the govt had delivered on the promises made to the people and laid a strong foundation for further transformation in 2026.He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Bengaluru to inaugurate a Metro project, had praised the city and the ongoing works. Claiming that the Centre had not provided funds for state projects, he said the govt was reshaping Bengaluru in a way that would bring pride to India.Referring to traffic bottlenecks in the state capital, Shivakumar said pending works had finally been taken up. “There will be no more blockages, and the Hebbal flyover has resolved a long-standing problem,” he said.
