The National Highway division of PWD has planned to acquire 2-3 metres of land from Mahatma Gandhi Park to construct a seven-metre concrete road, along with a one-metre drain.Officials had sent a proposal to the ministry of Transport and Highways in New Delhi, requesting it to change the original plan to have an asphalt road from K C Circle to Hosur Cross to a concrete one. From Hosur Cross to M G Park Cross, the road will be 14 metres wide. Currently, available land on one side is sufficient for a seven-metre road, but on the park side, PWD must acquire 2-3 metres of park land to complete the road and drain construction, sources in HDMC said. This acquisition is crucial for the construction of a seven-metre wide cement road, along with a one-metre drain, ensuring efficient water management and road durability. The decision to switch from an asphalt road to a cement concrete one was influenced by the persistent advocacy of the elected representatives. This project is a testament to the collaborative efforts between local authorities and national departments to enhance urban infrastructure. On completion, the project promises to bring about significant improvements to the city’s infrastructure. Satish Naganur, an engineer with NH PWD, said the department already held one round of discussions with the district administration and HDMC regarding the need to have 2-3 metres of land to widen a seven-metre stretch of the road on one side and an additional metre of land for drainage.
