Mangaluru: The National Pulse Polio Programme aimed at administering polio drops to 1,41,594 children under the age of five was held across Dakshina Kannada district on Sunday. While the programme was held at 956 centres in the district, an inaugural ceremony took place at the Lady Goschen Hospital.The district achieved 96.8% of the immunisation target by administering polio drops to 1.3 lakh children.MLC Manjunath Bhandary, speaking after inaugurating the programme, urged the public to ensure that every child between the ages of one and five in the district receives the pulse polio vaccine.By administering the pulse polio vaccine to children, they can be permanently protected from disabilities. To prevent any form of disability from affecting children in the future, the campaign must be successful with the support of the govt. He emphasised that children should be given two drops of the pulse polio vaccine during the campaign. DC Darshan HV, ZP CEO Narwade Vinayak Karbari, DHO Dr HR Thimmaiah, Wenlock District Hospital superintendent Dr DS Shivaprakash, Lady Goschen superintendent Dr Durgaprasad MR, and others were present.The pulse polio campaign will be conducted in the district till Dec 24, lasting three days in rural areas and four days in urban areas.
