Bengaluru: Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao has instructed officials to take measures to achieve the target of 100% pulse polio coverage within GBA limits. Special efforts must be undertaken in all five city corporations from Dec 21 to 24 as part of National Pulse Polio Programme, he said.Chief health officer SS Madani said pulse-polio vaccination will be administered at booths on Dec 21, from 8am to 5pm. From Dec 22 to 24, vaccination teams will conduct door-to-door visits. Polio drops will be administered at Namma clinics, primary health centres, maternity hospitals, referral hospitals, private hospitals and medical college hospitals. GBA has set a target to administer polio drops to 11.3 lakh children below 5 years of age across five corporations. “Vaccination will be carried out in 4,452 booths, including 3,391 fixed ones. In all, 601 transit teams, 460 mobile teams, 17,808 volunteers will be involved in the process, supported by 881 supervisors for monitoring,” a GBA release said.Addressing a virtual meeting, Rao urged officials to deploy more mobile vaccination teams in crowded areas such as bus stands, markets, railway/Metro stations, malls, major parks, tourist spots, exhibitions, slum areas and other densely populated locations. He instructed officials to coordinate with the associations of over 2,700 apartment complexes to encourage their active participation.
