Mysuru: Mysuru airport’s expansion has gained momentum with a joint survey and on-site inspection of land.The first step towards the formal handover of 206.1acre land by Karnataka State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) for the expansion and upgradation of Mysuru airport involved conducting a joint survey and on-site inspection with state govt officials, said airport director PV Usha Kumari.This landmark step, enabled by the govt order dated April 16, 2022, paves the way for the airport to handle wide-bodied aircraft like Boeing 737 and Airbus A320, significantly enhancing regional and international connectivity, she added.Multi-agency inspection and survey of the acquired land is being carried out from Monday to Wednesday.Officials from KSIIDC, KIADB, CNNL, KPTCL, NHAI, and AAI are participating to verify boundaries, assess site conditions, identify encumbrances if any, and finalise documentation.Project highlights* Runway extension: Plans to extend the runway from 1.7km to 2.3km, enabling operations of wide-bodied aircraft.* Cargo facilities: A dedicated cargo terminal is proposed to support agricultural and industrial exports, including Mysuru’s renowned Geographical Indication (GI) products.* Tourism Boost: Enhanced connectivity will position Mysuru as a premier gateway for domestic and international tourists, especially during Dasara celebrations.* Economic growth: The project is expected to catalyse investments, trade, and employment in the region.
