Bengaluru: A 25-year-old private firm employee was blackmailed and extorted of Rs 70,000 by fraudsters after he connected with one of them through a dating app. The Adugodi resident uploaded his profile on dating app Happn a few months ago and started chatting with a woman with profile name Ananya.After they exchanged mobile numbers, the woman sent him WhatsApp messages, and both indulged in intimate messages after a while. The woman made a WhatsApp video call to the complainant on Sept 4, stripped and also convinced him to remove his clothes. The fraudsters recorded the video call and started blackmailing him by threatening to upload his nude video call clipping on social media, including Instagram. Worried about the video, the man initially paid Rs 30,000 to an account number provided by the fraudster to ensure they deleted the video. However, they demanded more money, and he ended up paying them Rs 70,000 in total. Realising that the fraudsters were fleecing him, the man sought help of his friends, and on their suggestion, he called cyber helpline 1930 and complained.
