Bengaluru: The state govt Friday promoted two IPS officers of the 1995 batch to the director general of police (DGP) rank, while three senior officers, including two former police commissioners of Bengaluru city, missed the opportunity due to pending departmental enquiries (DEs).Umesh Kumar, currently serving as additional director general of police (ADGP) in the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), has been promoted and posted as DGP (recruitment). Arun Chakravarthy J, ADGP and CMD of the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation, has been elevated to the DGP rank and will continue in his current post.Among those denied promotion are B Dayananda and Alok Kumar of the 1994 batch. Dayananda is facing a departmental enquiry in connection with the recent stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium, while Alok Kumar faces a DE over allegations of illegal phone tapping. Another officer, Amrit Paul of the 1995 batch, has also been left out following accusations linked to the PSI recruitment scam.The promotions follow the govt’s annual review process.
