Madikeri: Two siblings—Monnanda Shobha Eerappa and Rashika Eerappa—received national awards on the occasion of the Teachers’ Day celebration in Delhi. The sisters were honoured by President Droupadi Murmu for their exemplary service in the field of education.Shobha and Rashika are daughters of late Eerappa and Meena from Kaikeri village in Kodagu. The two sisters have been teaching for many years and were honoured with this year’s national award. Dressed in traditional Kodava attire, the sisters received the awards.Shobha is one of the three teachers from Karnataka in the higher education department of the Union ministry of education and polytechnic colleges who received the National Teachers’ Award this year. She is an associate professor in mathematics at Manipal Institute of Technology and was honoured for her exemplary service.Out of 15 people in the country, Rashika Eerappa was selected in the skill category for the Central Kaushalya Acharya Award. The Kaushalya Acharya Award is presented every year on Teachers’ Day to skilled trainers for their contribution to the skill ecosystem and skill development in youth. Rashika is the only recipient of the award this year from Karnataka.
