Driven by debt, four of a family die by suicide

Bidar: On Tuesday, four members of a family reportedly died by suicide after jumping into the left bank canal of Karanja near Bhalki Taluk, according to police reports.The deceased include children Sreesanth, 9, Rithik, 7, and seven-month-old Rakesh, all of whom were the children of Sivamurthy Maruti Banerjee, alias Thippanna, 45, a resident of Mylur in Bidar. His wife Ramabai and another son, Srikanth, were saved by some locals.Originally from Sangolagi village in Bidar taluk, the family had been residing in Mailur, a suburb of Bidar city. It is suspected that financial debts may have driven them to this extreme decision, as stated by SP Pradeep Gunti.The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the mortuary at Bhalki taluk hospital for a postmortem examination. A case has been filed at the Dhannur police station, and an investigation is currently in progress.District minister Eshwar B Khandre visited the site and extended his condolences to the family. DSP Shivanand Pavadashetti and tahsildar Mallaikarjun Vaddanakeri also paid a visit to the location.
