About 80grams of gold and 8kg of silver have also been received as offerings, according to the counting done on Wednesday. A spike in footfalls at Huligi in recent past is said to be the reason for an increase in the collections. “Typically, hundi offerings are counted once a month or every two months. Of late, it has become common for the collections to surpass Rs 1 crore each time it is counted,” stated Prakash Rao, executive officer of Sri Huligemma Devi Development Authority. Huligemma Temple, a key religious site in north Karnataka, attracts large crowds of devotees every Tuesday and Friday, as also on full-moon and new-moon days. Tungabhadra Aarti programme was also held at this place recently.
