Chitradurga: Timmmarayappa, a Bescom executive engineer, was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 3.5 lakh. The bribe was a demand for a 10% cut on a Rs 35 lakh tender from a BESCOM contractor, S R Sanjay, a resident of Dummi village in Holakere taluk of Chitradurga. Sanjay requested a work order for the work worth Rs 35 lakh, but the executive engineer demanded a bribe of Rs 3.5 lakh. The complainant decided to take a stand and filed a complaint with the Lokayukta, setting in motion a plan to catch Timmmarayappa in the act. Under the leadership of Chitradurga Lokayukta SP Vasudevaram, a trap was laid. Lokayukta officials waited near Timmmarayappa’s house in Teachers Colony. As the exchange took place, they swooped in, catching him with the bribe money in hand.
