Ballari: Honorary doctorates will be conferred upon three distinguished individuals during the 13th annual convocation of Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University (VSKU) for the academic year 2023-24. The event is set to take place on Sept 4 at 11am, as announced by vice-chancellor Prof M Muniraju.In a press briefing held on Wednesday, he said that Irfan Razak, Dr Vasundhara Bhupathi, and Bavihalli Naganagouda will receive honorary doctorates in recognition of their achievements across various fields.Irfan Razack, based in Bengaluru, serves as the honorary chairman and managing director of the Prestige Group, recognised for his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to social service. Dr Vasundhara Bhoopathi is a physician and a well-known author. Bavihalli Naganagouda is a prominent industrialist from Sandur, actively contributing to education, social service, and cultural initiatives through BKG Foundation.The event will take place at the open-air theatre on the university campus and will be chaired by Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot. Prof Avinash Chandra Pandey, director of the Inter University Accelerator in New Delhi, will deliver the convocation address. Minister of higher education, Dr MC Sudhakar, will also be present.A total of 42 students from undergraduate and postgraduate programs will be honoured with 51 gold medals. Additionally, 57 students will be awarded doctoral degrees, and 155 students will receive rank certificates (80 for UG and 75 for PG).Commerce student Hamsa N will receive four gold medals, the highest this year. Rajeshwari from industrial chemistry department will receive three gold medals, while Manoj, Suhana Tasleem, Shilpa, Vishnupriya, and Mohmmad Nakib Ali will each be awarded two gold medals. In total, 19,179 undergraduate and 1,845 postgraduate students will receive their degrees.Registrar C Nagaraju, registrar (evaluation) Prof NM Sali, deans of all faculties, chairmen of various departments, and principals of various colleges will participate in the event.
