Tourist spot selection in Shivamogga creates confusion among stakeholders

Shivamogga: The tourist places identified by the district committee headed by Shivamogga deputy commissioner Gurudatt Hegde in Shivamogga have left the stakeholders in the tourism sector confused. Some tourist spots are located in forest and wildlife areas. Some have lost their historic names, and many beautiful places in Hosanagara taluk have been missed. The total number of places listed in the fresh list by the state tourism department is 64, which was restricted to 41 earlier. The list includes many places within wildlife sanctuaries and forests, like Kanuru Kote (a historic fort), which comes under the Sharavathi Wildlife Sanctuary, and Kunchikal and Talasi falls, which are still restricted by the forest department.DC Hegde said, “Nobody is against travel to these locations, but we have restrictions. This will be checked by the department concerned in the final process.”BJP Yuva Morcha leader from Hosanagara, Nitin, complained that the officials have neglected tourism development in Hosanagara taluk, which has a significant number of tourist spots and ample opportunities for tourism growth. Nitin said the list has missed mesmerising sites like Devagange pond, Balebare falls, and Chakra dam.Deputy director of tourism Dharmappa said the issues will be sorted out.
