Mysuru: A monthlong international training programme on ‘Sericulture and silk industry’ under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) scheme commenced at the Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute (CSRTI) here on Wednesday.Thirty overseas trainees from eight countries — Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Philippines, Cuba, Tanzania, Uganda, and Thailand — will undergo training until Sept 30. The programme includes hands-on training in mulberry silkworm rearing, exposure to latest technologies developed by CSRTI, and field visits to progressive sericulture farmers and allied sectors in and around Mysuru.Speaking on the occasion, CSRTI director P Deepa said the programme aims to support the introduction and development of sericulture activities in developing countries, create skilled manpower in sericulture, impart knowledge in extension management and post-cocoon technology, and showcase successful commercial sericulture models that can be replicated globally.Padmanav Nayak, assistant secretary, Centre Sericulture Board and programme coordinator, ISC Bengaluru, said this is the seventh batch of trainees under ITEC, with 132 participants from 22 countries benefiting so far. He added that along with technical training, participants will also gain exposure to India’s culture and heritage during their stay.The programme was formally inaugurated by S Manthira Moorthy, director, CSB Bengaluru, who urged the participants to make the most of the training and carry the knowledge back to their respective countries.
