Biker trying to overtake bus crushed to death in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A 45-year-old painter riding a motorcycle was killed and the pillion rider injured after they were hit by a mini-goods vehicle near Sonnenahalli bus stop on Doddabasti Main Road in west Bengaluru Wednesday morning.The victim is Manigandan and his assistant, Ningesh, 35, was injured in the accident.Manigandan and Ningesh, both residents of Vijayanagar, were on their way to work when the accident happened at 10.15am, police said. When a BMTC bus slowed down to pick up passengers at a stop, Manigandan tried to overtake the bus. A mini-goods vehicle hit his bike from behind and the two-wheeler fell on the road and got stuck between the goods vehicle and the bus. Manigandan was severely injured, including on his head, while Ningesh sustained leg injuries.Manigandan died by the time he was brought to a hospital and his colleague is undergoing treatment.A case has been registered against goods vehicle driver Gangadhar.BMTC issued a clarification later that the two-wheeler rider (Manigandan) tried to overtake its bus from the left side when it had halted at the bus stop, and was hit by the goods vehicle. It said the bus driver was not at fault.Man run over by BMTC bus succumbsA 52-year-old man who was run over by a BMTC bus near KR Market Tuesday night succumbed to injuries early Wednesday.Riyaz Pasha, also known as Naseer, was working as a labourer in Kalasipalya market. City Market traffic police said Pasha was on his way home to Govindapura after finishing work. He came to KR Market and boarded the BMTC bus (registration number KA-57-F-3248), heading towards Govindapura. The bus started moving while Pasha was still on the stairs. He lost balance, fell on the road and came under the rear wheel of the bus.Pasha is survived by his wife and children. A case has been registered against the bus driver, police said.KSRTC bus kills senior citizenA KSRTC bus mowed down a senior citizen riding a gearless scooter in Jaraganahalli, KS Layout, Wednesday morning. The victim was Gangadhar, 65, a businessman from Sarakki. Cops arrested bus driver Chandan Kumar and seized the vehicle, which was travelling to Kollegal.In another accident at Chikkajala near Yelahanka, a vehicle knocked down a 27-year-old mason around 7pm Tuesday. The victim was Ramakrishna Burman from West Bengal, residing at Dwarakanagar, north Bengaluru.On Kanakapura Main Road in Talaghattapura, a speeding truck rear-ended a 35-year-old cook’s motorbike and mowed him down. The victim was Jaya Pratap from Bihar, staying at Konanakunte.
