Mangaluru: A complainant allegedly lost Rs 24.9 lakh in a fraudulent online share market scam. In a complaint filed with the Dakshina Kannada CEN police on Thursday, complainant C Subrahmanya of Bantwal taluk stated that he received a phone call from an unidentified person on July 20, asking if he was interested in investing in the stock market through ‘Fivepaisa’. Upon agreeing, the complainant was instructed to download the ‘Fivepaisamax’ app and received a link to do so.He was told to invest a minimum of Rs 5,000 to open an account, but instead, he deposited Rs 40,000. Later, he was advised to invest in the stock market. The complainant managed to withdraw Rs 1,000 from the initial deposit. Subsequently, to invest in the stock market, he transferred a total of Rs 24.9 lakh in stages to the fraudsters’ accounts. When he attempted to withdraw money, it was unsuccessful. A case was registered under Sections 66(C), 66(D) of the IT ACT; 318(4) and 319(2) of the BNS.
