Madikeri: A hill collapsed in the reserve forest area near Palangala under Kedamullur gram panchayat limits of Virajpet taluk. A large amount of soil was washed away due to rain, and fortunately, there was no loss of life.The landslide occurred in the 341-acre forest area on the border of Kodagu and Kerala.The collapse occurred from a high area and spread for hundreds of metres. Since the area was within the forest, there was no major damage. Officials said there were no residences within an approximate 15-km radius of this landslide site.The forest department has informed that a stream is flowing in the forest area, and due to the intensity of the rain, trees have fallen, causing a problem as water cannot flow in the stream, causing a hill in the forest to collapse and completely wash away the soil.Officials of the department of mines and geology, officials of the Virajpet revenue department, village accountant, local panchayat officials and ward members, forest department officials and staff visited the spot.
