Lakhs of aspirants wrote NEET UG for admission to medical colleges on May 3. With limited MBBS seats, even a small difference in marks can significantly change a student’s rank and admission chances. As per recent trend analysis, the exam continues to show intense competition. A ‘safe score’ in NEET is not officially defined by NTA, but is based on past admission trends and counselling data. The idea of a “safe score” is never fixed, however. It changes every year based on rxam difficulty level, number of test-takers, overall performance of students and seat availability in counselling rounds. If the paper is easier, cut-offs rise. If it is tougher, cut-offs may dip slightly, but competition still remains high due to sheer volume of candidates.

NEET UG cut-offs have slightly varied over the past three years, with the Unreserved/EWS range moving from 720–137 in 2023 to 686–144 in 2025 for government colleges, reflecting changing exam difficulty and competition. Reserved categories like OBC, SC and ST have stayed within a similar qualifying band, showing relatively stable trends across years.
