NEW DELHI: The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party received Rs 12.10 crore in contributions in 2025-26, a 68% drop from the previous financial year, according to its latest report filed with the Election Commission.Nearly 83% of the party’s contributions came from two donors, Prudent Electoral Trust and Trident Limited. Both gave Rs 5 crore each. Trident was founded by former AAP Rajya Sabha member Rajinder Gupta.The remaining contributions amounted to around Rs 2.10 crore, according to the report.Gupta was elected to the Rajya Sabha on an AAP ticket in October 2025. Trident’s Rs 5-crore cheque was dated January 9, 2026, when Gupta was still with the AAP.He joined the BJP after Raghav Chadha led rebellion, merging two-third of AAP’s Rajya Sabha strength into the ruling saffron party in April this year.The AAP had reported contributions of Rs 38.10 crore in 2024-25, compared with Rs 11.06 crore in 2023-24. Prudent Electoral Trust was the party’s biggest donor that year, contributing Rs 16.40 crore.The latest filing covers the first full financial year after the AAP lost power in Delhi in February 2025. The party continues to govern Punjab, where Trident is based.The AAP report has 1,202 numbered entries. Punjab AAP president Aman Arora is listed against 12 payments of Rs 10,000 each, adding up to Rs 1.20 lakh.
How other regional parties fared
The latest filings of other regional parties also show a decline in contributions compared with 2024-25.The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which came to power in Andhra Pradesh, reported Rs 58.25 crore in contributions in 2025-26, down from Rs 83.03 crore the previous year. Prudent Electoral Trust was its biggest donor, giving Rs 45 crore, compared with Rs 40 crore in 2024-25.The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), which lost power in Andhra Pradesh to the TDP, reported contributions of Rs 24.31 crore. This was sharply lower than the Rs 140.04 crore it reported in 2024-25. Its biggest donor in the latest filing was Goodwood Sanctuary Private Limited, which contributed Rs 10 crore.

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which lost power in Odisha in 2024, did not report any contribution above Rs 20,000 in its latest filing. The party had reported Rs 60 crore in 2024-25, all of it received in April and May 2024, before the election results.The BJD had also reported no such contributions in 2022-23 and 2023-24, when electoral bonds were still available.Under the rules, political parties have to disclose the names of donors who contribute more than Rs 20,000 in a financial year.However, these contribution reports do not represent a party’s total annual income, which is disclosed separately in its audited accounts.
