Woman loses Rs 7.8L in online scam

Mangaluru: A woman was allegedly cheated of Rs 7.8 lakh after falling victim to an online scam falsely claiming that she won a lottery from the television quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati.The woman stated that on May 23, while she was browsing the Facebook application at her home, she came across a link related to the game show. She clicked the URL and submitted a response. On May 27, she received a phone call, and the caller introduced himself as Sanjeev Kumar, claiming to be from the Kaun Banega Crorepati office in Delhi, and informed her that she won Rs 8 lakh.He asked her to send her Aadhaar number, PAN card, and photo. Believing the claim, the complainant sent the details via WhatsApp to the same number. The accused then told her that she needed to pay registration charges, TDS charges, and other such fees, stating that these amounts would be refunded along with the prize money.Using this pretext, between May 27 and July 19, the accused allegedly collected a total of Rs 7.8 lakh from the complainant through multiple transactions via Google Pay. A case was registered at the Urva police station.
