Mandya has adequate water for summer, says nodal secretary

Mandya: Mandya district nodal secretary Manoj Kumar Meena assured that the district has adequate water reserves to meet agricultural and drinking water needs this summer.Chairing a district-level development review meeting at Zilla Panchayat, Meena said Mandya is well prepared to prevent water scarcity and instructed officials to protect all water sources. He directed tahsildars to proactively clear lake encroachments and secure reclaimed areas with fencing and signboards to prevent re-encroachment.

Reviewing administrative progress, Meena noted that over 67,000 Pouthi Khata applications had been disposed of and that over Rs 892 crore had been distributed under PM-Kisan scheme. To address unemployment, he urged agriculture department and universities to train local youth in agro-based entrepreneurship and provide technical and financial support. He also directed officials to monitor drinking water quality under Jal Jeevan Mission and stressed that trained self-help groups must be given real employment opportunities. Emphasising cleanliness, he called for scientific waste management and segregation at source.Meena, who is secretary of skill development, entrepreneurship and livelihood department, said industrial growth, skill development and entrepreneurship are essential to eradicate unemployment in Mandya district.DC Kumara reported 89% property tax collection, while zilla panchayat CEO KR Nandini highlighted women-led enterprises and efforts to secure GI tags for Maddur Vada and Mandya Jaggery.
