Mysuru: Vehicle owners who violated traffic rules, including the speed limit, on the Bengaluru-Mysuru national highway owed the police Rs 121.16 crore.Meanwhile, following the installation of AI cameras on the NH, the number of traffic violations have come down drastically on this busy national highway.According to data shared by state home minister G Parameshwara in response to a question raised by the Mandya MLC Madhu G Madegowda, in 2024, the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) captured as many as 13,83,861 traffic violations. The total fine amount was Rs 93,75,42,500. However, till now only Rs 8,38,80,500 was collected. Rs 85,36,62,000 remained unpaid.In 2025, traffic violations came down drastically to 5,43,175. The fine amount was Rs 40,10,76,500, but only Rs 4,30,73,000 was collected. Rs 35,80,03,500 remained unpaid. The minister informed that 25 ITMS cameras were installed across the highway.“After the installation of AI cameras, the number of traffic violations has come down. But there are complaints that false violations are reported,” said Madhu Madegowda.“The AI cameras capture the violations with photos. But in many instances, even though there is no violation in the photo, a fine amount is imposed on the vehicle owners. This needs to be rectified,” he said. “Fine collection is a challenge,” he said.
