Myusuru: Mysuru deputy commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy on Tuesday assured sugarcane growers that the pending dues of Rs 100 per tonne—payable jointly by the state govt and sugar factories—will be credited to farmers’ bank accounts within the next 15 days.Speaking at a meeting with sugarcane growers and the management of Bannari Amman Sugar Factory, the DC said the govt would release Rs 50 per tonne, while the sugar factory must pay the remaining Rs 50 within the same period. Funds have already been released to the Mysuru district on priority, he said, adding that district-level procedures would take about two weeks to complete.Addressing growers’ allegations of irregularities in recovery (yield) assessment, Reddy said surprise inspections would be conducted during crushing, with on-the-spot tests carried out in the presence of farmers’ representatives.To streamline harvesting operations, the DC said official harvest dates would be fixed on a farmer-wise basis by the tahsildar’s office. The details would be displayed at farmer contact centres and Nada Kacheri notice boards, and also shared with farmer organisations. In special cases, such as disease or pest attacks before crop maturity, permission for early harvesting would be granted after inspection by the joint director of agriculture.Responding to complaints about delays in weighing and the location of weighbridges, the DC directed the factory to examine shifting the weighing machine closer to the factory entrance. He also instructed the management to issue entry slips as soon as vehicles arrive, followed by weighing slips.Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers’ association president Kuraburu Shanthakumar and ZP CEO Ukesh Kumar were present.
