Flower show, millet fair to begin in Shivamogga from Jan 24

Shivamogga: The 63rd edition of Pushpa Siri, a flower show and a millets fair, will be held at Allama Freedom Park from Jan 24 to 27.The event is hosted under the joint auspices of the zilla panchayat, the horticulture department, and District Garden Art Association, on the occasion of Republic Day. Zilla panchayat CEO Hemant Kumar told reporters on Tuesday that the event will feature a 60-foot-wide and 22-foot-high replica of the Jog Falls, a 16-foot-tall fort with a statue of Shivappa Nayaka, and a 15-foot model of the Balligavi Kedareshwara Temple.Additionally, there will be an ‘I Love Shivamogga’ selfie point, a bonsai plant exhibition, and a millets fair. These stalls will offer various items like pottery decorations, macramé products, Hase Chittara art (a traditional Malnad Warli art), paddy torans (door hangings), wild date palm mats, clay jewellery, and wood carvings produced by rural women from various districts and other states.For competitions, participants must register by Jan 23. G RAM G will begin in next financial year: KumarMeanwhile, Kumar said the VB-G RAM G scheme will begin next financial year. He noted that while MGNREGA participation among women in Shivamogga is high, with 1.6 lakh active job cardholders, overall utilisation remains low.Furthermore, with the terms of gram panchayats ending in March, preparations for appointing administrators are under way, emphasising that local bodies will continue to collect taxes to fund essential rural infrastructure like drainage, water, and roads, he stated.
