Environmental awareness among children a need of the hour: MLA

Hubballi: MLA Prasad Abbayya, chairman of Karnataka Slum Development Board, said it was necessary to create awareness about the environment among children and that the public should be made aware of the environment at a Cluster Level Learning Festival, held at govt Model Kannada Girls School No 1 in Ghantikeri, Hubballi.He was addressing the gathering at an event jointly organised by the school education and literacy department, District Education and Training Institute, and the KSPCB, in collaboration with taluk administration, to celebrate 50 years of KSPCB.“More than 90 cities in India were among the 100 most polluted cities in the world, and India ranked 5th among the most polluted countries. The food we eat today is also contaminated. We have poisoned the air and earth,” he said, and added that the natural resources including rivers, air, mountains, hills and forests were being destroyed.Probationary IAS officer Ritika Verma said children should be made aware of pollution control, and teachers should give more time to children with learning challenges.Winners of painting, essay, quiz and poetry competitions were awarded at the event.
