Madikeri: Following complaints of a lack of facilities, the ITDP officials visited the tribal settlement in Dubare for an inspection. Various problems faced by the residents were brought to the fore during the visit, and the officials assured that they would resolve the issues.During the District Development Coordination and Monitoring meeting held recently, president of Nanjarayapatna gram panchayat, RK Chandra highlighted the lack of facilities at the Dubare tribal settlement.Following the directive from the MLAs, the Somwarpet taluk ITDP officials, led by Tejaraj H and Prashanth Kumar, inspected the settlement. During the visit, the residents highlighted the lack of a water facility in the settlement, which forced residents to dig holes in the ground to obtain water, Chandra explained. He said that the previous solar light connectivity to the settlement was replaced with an unscientific electric connection. “The electricity line was installed very close to the trees, and there are high chance of electric accidents. A new underground electricity connection system needs to be provided to the houses from the main line immediately,” he urged.Meanwhile, he alleged that the govt facilities extended for the welfare of the tribal community were not reaching the settlement dwellers. “Several families in the tribal settlement do not have proper shelter, and they live in makeshift huts wrapped in tarpaulins. The department must provide housing facilities to these residents,” he urged. The officials, who took note of the problems, assured that they would resolve them. “The problems here were examined, and appropriate action will be taken. Also, a proposal was already submitted to the department for a tube well and an overhead water tank in this settlement. A list of homeless people will be prepared and sent to the department,” Tejaraj confirmed.
