Mangaluru: In a bid to improve revenue collection, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has begun a ward-wise survey to determine the exact number of properties and thereby improve revenue collection.MCC revenue officials have held several preparatory meetings to conduct spot inspections as part of the survey. The first phase of the survey was launched by MCC commissioner Ravichandra Naik in the Atttavar ward on Friday. MCC deputy commissioner (revenue, in-charge), Akshatha K, told TOI the city corporation has 2,22,256 properties in 60 wards within MCC limits. “We want a complete picture of the actual number of properties existing in each ward. We want our own teams headed by revenue inspectors to conduct the survey,” she added. In the first phase, a sample survey will be carried out in three wards: Hampankatta, Attavar and Padavu. Once the survey is completed in these three wards, MCC will extend the process to all other wards, she said. “We have already collected Rs 103.5 crore against the target of Rs 112 crore for the current fiscal. There are around 90,000 properties still pending, and the survey will give us clarity on this,” the officer further said.
