Kalaburagi: In response to allegations of illegal activities at Kalaburagi Central Prison, a high-level investigation has been initiated, and director general (DG) of prisons and correctional services Alok Kumar is scheduled to visit the jail on Jan 3.The DG’s visit comes amid serious allegations, including gambling inside the prison, circulation of a viral video showing inmates allegedly leading a high-end lifestyle, and bribery charges involving PSI scam accused RD Patil and jail superintendent Anita.To probe claims of illegal gambling, consumption of alcohol, and smoking within the prison premises, an investigation team has been constituted under the leadership of additional inspector general of prisons. The team, headed by PV Anandreddy, will carry out a detailed inspection and inquiry to identify officers and staff responsible for any wrongdoing.The viral gambling video is believed to be from two to three months ago. They also confirmed that Munikrishna alias Kappe, a Bengaluru-based prisoner allegedly involved in the gambling activities, was released from the jail on Dec 2. Based on these factors, officials said the preliminary assessment suggests that the video is not recent.
