HDMC delegation will meet CM over land swap of Old Court premises

Pic: A heated argument took place between mayor and opposition party members during a general body meeting held on TuesdayHubballi: Mayor Jyoti Patil said that an all-party delegation of corporators led by Union minister Pralhad Joshi will be taken to chief minister Siddaramaiah in the first week of January to press for the allotment of the Old Court premises to HDMC in exchange for allotting 39 guntas of HDMC land to the law university.Issuing a ruling during a general body meeting of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) held here on Tuesday, Patil explained to the house that the delegation was not taken to the CM during the winter assembly session in Belagavi because the HDMC opposition leader failed to get an appointment. She said the matter was brought to the notice of Union minister Joshi, and added that he assured to lead the all-party delegation. She asked opposition leader Imran Yaligar to get the CM’s appointment.Former mayor Veeranna Savadi raised the issue during zero hour, saying the handing-over process of the Old Court premises was pending. Law minister HK Patil also assured the handing over of the Old Court premises to the HDMC as per the resolution by HDMC on giving 39 guntas of land to the law university.Rajanna Koravi asked what happened to the plan of taking an all-party delegation to the CM during the winter session in Belagavi. Replying to this, Jyoti Patil clarified as above.‘Indore tour was funded under SBM-2 grants’HDMC commissioner Rudresh Ghali said the Indore tour of all-party corporators and officials was funded from the grants sanctioned under Swachh Bharat Mission-2 (SBM-2). For capacity building and other activities, Rs 85 lakh was sanctioned to the HDMC, and the all-party corporators’ and officials’ tour to Indore was held using these funds. The tour was very useful for the officials as well as the corporators. In the coming days, various plans will be implemented, he added.Earlier, senior corporator from the ruling BJP, Tippanna Majjagi, raised concerns about which head the amount for the Indore tour was spent from, and how much was spent on the tour. Replying to the queries, mayor Patil instructed the HDMC commissioner to clarify.Former mayor Ramanna Badiger said the tour was very helpful, and various things can be implemented individually in respective wards.Majjagi urged the HDMC commissioner to give clarification on the total amount spent. Ghali assured he would disclose the amount in a couple of days.
