Police launch bike rally to create awareness on drugs and tighten new year security in Hubballi

Hubballi: The police commissionerate launched a bike rally to eradicate drugs and create awareness in Hubballi on Tuesday.The bike rally started from Nehru Maidan and travelled through major streets of the city, including Channamma Circle, Koppikar Road, and Gokul Road. Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar flagged off the rally.Speaking to reporters, he said the department will be taking precautionary measures for new year celebrations. They already conducted station-wise rowdy sheeters’ parades and instructed them not to get involved in any anti-social activities. The department conducted a parade for drug peddlers and consumers and issued strict warnings.Police bandobast will be arranged in sensitive areas, including hostels, malls, party halls, resorts, and crowded places. Protection for women and children is to be provided by deploying police personnel. CCTV monitoring and patrolling will be carried out. Overall, the department is taking precautionary measures to prevent any unpleasant incidents during celebrations. The department has received information regarding new year celebration venues, and police will be deployed at mass gatherings.Shashi Kumar said that they launched drug raids in the twin cities. Police visited places where drugs were being manufactured or sold. They already carried out door-to-door visits and asked people to provide information about drug peddlers and consumers. The new year celebrations should be held peacefully. There have been many incidents of crimes in the past during celebrations. Therefore, the department is taking measures to prevent such incidents to aid the public, he added.He said the department established 25 check posts within its limits and deployed around 1,500 personnel, including KSRP.
